Maurice has discovered a Kestrel with one leg which is a huge problem for the bird. She is just a short distance away from the project site and Maurice is keeping an eye on her and making sure that she has food. It's difficult to know if she can survive as her legs and talons are so important for hunting.
While I was wardening yesterday, I saw a Little Tern chase a Pied Wagtail, both of them calling loudly. As they flew along the river, the wagtail suddenly turned and flew at the tern and they squabbled in the air for a few seconds. The wagtail flew off in one direction and the tern in another. About ten minutes later, I saw the same spectacle on the beach as a Pied Wagtail again took on a Little Tern, though it is smaller than the tern. Perhaps it was the same two birds.
