We completed the fence dismantling on the 28th August with the help of lots of volunteers. We kicked off at 10am though there were already some volunteers hard at work when we arrived. Seamus drove the tractor and trailer with Len in the back taking in the posts that were passed up by other volunteers. Over the past couple of weeks, some volunteers had been out and had made a start on the dismantling of the fence and that made a big difference to the amount of work to be done on the day.
As the tractor and trailer headed off followed by car loads of volunteers to unload the posts etc, Peter started the BBQ and by the time everybody had arrived back, the fire was ready to use. We had a very pleasant few hours eating and chatting and generally having a bit of craic. As people started to drift off, there was some sadness at parting but the overwhelming feeling was of a job well done and satisfaction with the success of the 2010 project which saw 96 Little Tern chicks fledge.
As it was Heritage Week, Louth Nature Trust welcomed visitors to the project site to see first hand the volunteers at work and to discuss the project with us. Thanks you to all who came out to see it.
