Little terns have been reported at Lady’s island, Kilkoole and Laytown, though none so far at Baltray; it is time to start planning for this year’s wardening. Currently funding issues are in the process of being resolved and it is likely that the Louth Nature Trust will be able to engage a contractor to manage the site this year, though volunteers will be needed just as much as in previous years.
Given the Bank Holiday weekend, the best weekend to set up the fencing will probably be 11/12th May. Easterly gales have significantly modified the foreshore area; over the next week or two the site will be surveyed to determine best location of fencing.
As we get closer to the start date we will update the web site and notify volunteers by text.
